January is School Board Recognition Month

Barbers Hill ISD joins school districts across Texas in celebrating School Board Recognition Month, a time to honor the dedicated volunteers who serve as school board trustees and help guide the future of public education.

School board members volunteer their time and expertise to oversee district operations, establish policies and ensure students receive a high-quality education. Their leadership plays a vital role in supporting student achievement, fiscal responsibility, and long-range planning that benefits the entire community.

The 2026 School Board Recognition Month theme, Our Future Is Public, highlights the essential role public education plays in building strong communities, a skilled workforce, and a thriving Texas economy.

The Barbers Hill school board is comprised of seven elected community members who come from different backgrounds and experiences, yet work collaboratively with district leadership to set the vision for BHISD and make decisions that support the academic success and well-being of all students.

“We have the most outstanding board in the state, and our state-leading successes are the proof of this statement,” said Barbers Hill ISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Poole.

The citizens of Barbers Hill ISD are well-represented by their trustees:

·         Benny May – 30 years of service

·         George Barrera – 24 years of service

·         Fred Skinner – 19 years of service

·         Becky Tice – 17 years of service

·         Eric Davis – 8 years of service

·         Clint Pipes – 7 years of service

·         Mark Wilson – 4 years of service

All school board positions are three-year terms and represent the entire school district. Their responsibilities can be grouped into five categories: adopt goals and priorities and monitor success; adopt policies and review for effectiveness; hire and evaluate the superintendent; adopt a budget and set a tax rate; and communicate with the community.

Barbers Hill ISD is a school district of more than 8,000 students and 1,350 employees with a General Fund budget of $142 million. It is an immense responsibility.

Barbers Hill trustees all have a common vision – they want every student to have access to a great education that prepares them for whatever path they choose to pursue after graduation.

Barbers Hill ISD encourages students, staff, families and community members to take a moment this January to thank the Board of Trustees for their service and continued commitment to public education.

Leading … the Eagle Way

The Barbers Hill ISD fieldhouse, usually a bastion of athletic cheers and competitive spirit, was buzzing with a different kind of energy on August 4. It was a sea of blue, filled not with athletes, but with the dedicated educators and staffers who were ready to embark on another school year. This was the annual convocation, a moment to rally the entire district and set a powerful tone for the year ahead.
