Barbers Hill High School proudly hosted the Region 19 UIL Middle School Choir Concert & Sight Reading Contest on March 4, welcoming more than 400 talented vocalists from Barbers Hill ISD and Goose Creek CISD for a day of musical excellence, where choirs performed prepared concert selections and demonstrated their musicianship through the challenging sight-reading portion of the contest.

During the event, each choir performed three prepared concert pieces for a panel of judges. Immediately following the performance, students participated in the sight-reading portion of the contest. In this segment, choirs are given a brand-new piece of music and must perform it after a brief study period—without prior practice—showcasing their ability to read music, collaborate, and perform under pressure.

Judges evaluate each performance using the UIL rating scale:
1 – Superior; 2 – Excellent;  3 – Good;  4 – Fair;  5 – Poor

This process allows students to demonstrate both their polished performance skills and their musicianship in real time. BHISD's middle school choirs delivered strong performances in both the concert and sight-reading evaluations.

"Events like UIL Concert & Sight Reading challenge students to perform at a high level while representing their schools with professionalism and pride. These young musicians are truly the future of our choir program."
