The Barbers Hill Middle School South cheer squad returned home from UCA Cheer Camp in Grapevine with an impressive list of accomplishments, proving they can compete with the best regardless of age.

Competing in a division that included high school teams, the Eagles earned three trophies, taking first place in the sideline cheer routine, second place overall and second place in the dance routine. The squad was also recognized as the top-ranked middle school team at camp.

The success continued with individual honors. All five eighth-grade cheerleaders who qualified to audition for the prestigious UCA All-American team earned the distinction. Those students were Adelyn Shibley, Adley Louvier, Avie Watson, Brynlee Penn and Shelby Fowler.

The team’s mascot, Evie the Eagle, portrayed by Kaitlyn Mica, also auditioned for All-American honors and was selected.

Throughout the week, the squad consistently demonstrated enthusiasm and teamwork. Cheerleaders earned spirit sticks each day, while Evie the Eagle received the camp’s Most Spirited Award. The team also earned Superior ratings on both of its evaluations on the first attempt.

One of the camp’s highest individual recognitions went to MSS cheerleader Jess Lopez, who was selected by UCA staff members for the Pin It Forward Award. The honor is presented to campers who exemplify outstanding leadership, positivity and character among hundreds of participants.

“We could not be more proud of our humble little middle school team,” said MSS cheer coach Amber Ball Morton. “They represented our district so well.”

The camp’s results reflect a successful week of competition, leadership development and school pride for the Barbers Hill Middle School South cheer program as it prepares for the upcoming school year.
